Meta announced a Content Protection feature that detects videos uploaded to Facebook and Instagram without the original owner’s permission. So, what should you know about it?

A way to counter freebooting

For your information, this feature was developed to address the issue of freebooting on their platform. You are also given the option to opt in to Content Protection when uploading reels to Facebook. After that, Meta will detect if the same video is uploaded by another account. As a copyright holder, you can do three things when a video has been freebooted.

In addition, the Track option allows you to place a credit link to the original video producer. The second option is Block, which prevents the illegally uploaded video from being viewed on Facebook and Instagram. The third option is Release, which allows the video to continue to be displayed on other accounts and stops tracking.

Content Protection also has a feature that allows you to grant permission to other accounts to upload original videos, with this permission being revoked at any time. The feature has been enabled for Facebook Content Monetisation program participants with content management accessed through the Rights Manager view.
