Malaysia launches new digital emergency response with SaveME 999 mobile app

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), in partnership with the Ministry of Communications, has officially rolled out the Next Generation Emergency Response Services 999 (NG MERS 999). The launch follows a 2024 agreement between TM and the Ministry, aimed at delivering smarter, faster, and more inclusive emergency services nationwide.
An Enhanced SaveME 999 App
In this enhanced SaveME 999 mobile app, which allows Malaysians—including those with special needs—to contact 999 operators via video, text, and multimedia-based alerts. While traditional voice calls to 999 remain available, the app provides an accessible alternative, placing Malaysia among the first countries in the world to implement large-scale, inclusive digital emergency access.

Fully Digital, Integrated Platform for Faster Response
NG MERS 999 replaces the legacy MERS 999 system with a fully digital, integrated platform, improving operational efficiency, optimising resource deployment, and reducing response times across more than 800 locations nationwide. The platform integrates AI-powered analytics, geolocation services, and secure sovereign cloud hosting, streamlining call management and enabling real-time decision-making.
“TM is proud to stand alongside the Ministry of Communications in delivering this vital national infrastructure that protects lives and strengthens our resilience,” said Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, TM’s Group CEO.
“NG MERS 999 leverages AI and multi-channel communications to enable faster, smarter, and more inclusive emergency response for all,” Amar added.
Advanced Features for Public Safety
Key features of NG MERS 999 include:
- Advanced Mobile Location (AML) for precise caller geolocation
- A unified platform linking five emergency agencies
- Strengthened digital accessibility for persons with disabilities (PwDs)

The SaveME 999 app allows the public to send multimedia alerts with GPS data, while the Responder App ensures real-time coordination among emergency agencies—driving faster response and improved outcomes in critical situations.
Poor Reception by Malaysians, Though
The SaveME 999 app is now available to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. However, the reception towards the app is quite poor, with many citing the registration and verification process as one of the main reasons, alongside the address accuracy.
This basically turns the app unusable, but we hope that the government can fix those bugs and rectify the issues as soon as possible. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
