For this upcoming Hari Raya festive celebration, Malaysian highway users can look forward to lower travel costs this festive season, as the Ministry of Works Malaysia (KKR) has confirmed a 50% toll discount in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026. The initiative, announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, aims to ease the financial burden for Malaysians travelling long distances to celebrate with their families.
Discount Period and Eligibility
The toll discount will be implemented nationwide starting 12:01 AM on 18 March 2026, and will end at 11:59 PM on 19 March 2026. It applies to Class 1 private vehicles on most highways across the country. However, several locations are excluded from the initiative, including the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Toll Plaza and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Malaysia–Singapore Second Link.
Supporting Festive Travel and Cost Relief

According to the government, the initiative is part of broader efforts under the MADANI framework to support rakyat during major festive periods. The toll discount is expected to involve government compensation of approximately RM21.03 million to highway concessionaires. Beyond cost savings, the move is also intended to spread out travel demand and reduce congestion during peak balik kampung periods.
Maintenance Works Suspended to Improve Traffic Flow
To ensure smoother journeys, the Ministry of Works Malaysia has also directed that all highway maintenance works be temporarily suspended from 18 March 18 to 30 March 2026. This measure is aimed at minimising disruptions, avoiding lane closures and improving overall traffic flow during the busy festive travel window.
Travel Planning Tools and Safety Advice

Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance to avoid congestion. Authorities recommend using tools such as the TuJu Navigasi Lebuhraya app and MyPLUS-TTA for suggested travel times and route planning. Drivers are also advised to follow traffic regulations, adhere to speed limits and pay attention to real-time updates displayed on Variable Message System boards along highways. For those using smart lanes, proper signalling, adherence to speed limits and awareness of surrounding traffic conditions are strongly encouraged.
Real-Time Traffic Updates and Assistance
Road users can stay informed about traffic conditions and incidents through official channels from the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), including its social media platforms and traffic updates. Motorists can also contact the LLM Traffic Management Centre via 1-800-88-7752 for assistance. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
