AI can now predict the weather up to 15 days ahead

In case you didn’t know, Google DeepMind has launched its latest artificial intelligence (AI) model, WeatherNext 2, which can forecast weather up to 15 days ahead, up to 8 times faster than its predecessor. So, what should you know about it?

Forecasts with up to hourly accuracy

According to DeepMind, it can also make forecasts with up to hourly accuracy. WeatherNext 2 has been integrated into Search, Gemini, Pixel Weather and Google Maps to provide more accurate weather forecasts to users of these Google-owned platforms.

Moreover, WeatherNext 2 can generate hundreds of weather forecast scenarios from a single point in time in less than a minute using a single Google TPU. The WeatherNext 2 AI model is another AI that Google has developed for weather forecasting. The 15-day hurricane forecast feature that launched in June actually uses WeatherNext 2 but was not announced at the time.
