In another surprise announcement by Apple, the company officially unveiled the AirPods Max 2, the second generation of its premium over-ear headphones. The new model builds on the original AirPods Max with improved audio performance, stronger noise cancellation and a range of intelligent features powered by Apple’s H2 chip.
The New AirPods Max 2 Features
At the core of the new headphones is Apple’s H2 chip, which enhances computational audio and enables several new features. These include Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation and Live Translation, bringing capabilities previously seen in other AirPods models to the over-ear lineup for the first time. The chip also allows the headphones to deliver improved performance across music playback, calls and voice interactions.
One of the biggest upgrades in the AirPods Max 2 is improved Active Noise Cancellation. Apple says the headphones now provide up to 1.5 times more effective ANC compared to the previous generation. The improvement is powered by new computational audio algorithms and the enhanced microphone system, which work together to block external noise such as airplane engines or commuter traffic while maintaining audio clarity. Transparency mode has also been refined to sound more natural, allowing users to remain aware of their surroundings while listening to music.

Apple has also upgraded the audio hardware with a high dynamic range amplifier, delivering cleaner sound and better overall fidelity. With Personalized Spatial Audio, the headphones can create a more immersive listening experience by improving instrument separation, bass accuracy and the balance of mid and high frequencies. For professional and high-fidelity use, the headphones support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio via USB-C connection, enabling music creators to record, mix and monitor audio with minimal latency.
New Features for Communication and Content Creation
The AirPods Max 2 introduces several smart features designed to improve communication and productivity. Live Translation enables real-time language translation during in-person conversations, while Voice Isolation helps prioritise the user’s voice during calls by reducing background noise. The headphones can also be used for studio-quality audio recording, and the Digital Crown can function as a remote camera shutter for iPhone and iPad devices.
Availability, Colours and Pricing

The AirPods Max 2 will be available to order starting 25 March in more than 30 countries, with retail availability beginning early next month. Apple is offering the headphones in five colours, including midnight, starlight, orange, purple and blue. The new model starts at RM2299, and it is coming soon to the Malaysian market.
