Ron95 fuel subsidy using MyKad

There have been some complaints of glitches which caused many Malaysians to purchase fuel at the unsubsidised price of RM2.60, even when they were eligible for the BUDI95 subsidy. To this, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, said that affected Malaysians can file a claim to get the difference refunded.

“There were some complaints, such as system outages, but these were managed speedily,” she said. “However, if motorists ended up paying unsubsidised RON95 prices as a result, they may file for a claim,” Fuziah added.

The refund application process will open on 9 October, allowing Malaysians who purchased unsubsidised petrol between 30 September and 31 October to file for a refund. Claims can be submitted through the official Subsidised Petrol Control Scheme (SKPS) website, accompanied by purchase receipts as supporting documents.

Upon verification and approval by the ministry, refunds will be credited to applicants’ bank accounts within 15 working days. Additionally, Fuziah stated that businesses must register under the SKPS and provide proof of having applied for a fleet card on or before 31 October to qualify for the scheme.

She noted that only 25% of eligible business owners have registered with the ministry so far, despite efforts to raise awareness since the launch of the BUDI95 programme. According to her, although the response has not been very encouraging, the ministry is engaging with relevant groups, such as taxi associations, to encourage them to register under the SKPS to enjoy the petrol subsidy.

“Those who are late to carry out the registration can still claim the subsidy backdated from 1 October, as long as they produce receipts for their petrol purchases,” she added.
