The first half of January is set to be hectic, as more companies announce plans to launch new smartphones soon. POCO is the next to join that list, as it confirms the launch of the POCO M8 5G next week. Here’s what we know so far.
Launch date confirmed
POCO India yesterday announced that the POCO M8 5G will launch on 8 January 2026 at 12 PM (2:30 PM MYT). The global launch date wasn’t announced, but it should be much later, like this year. For reference, the POCO M7 5G first launched in India in March 2025, before launching here in August 2025.

Minor specs revealed
Additionally, POCO India revealed some POCO M8 5G specs on X. The phone will have an ultra-slim 7.35mm profile and weigh only 178g. In a short teaser video, POCO India also confirmed that it will have a 3D curved AMOLED display with 3200 nits peak brightness and Military Standard 810H durability. Overall, the new model offers massive upgrades over its predecessor.
The POCO M7 5G’s 6.88-inch display has a 120Hz refresh rate, but only has HD+ resolution, 600 nits peak brightness, and uses an IPS panel. It’s also slightly thicker (8.2mm) and heavier (205g), even if the differences are negligible. In addition, the POCO M7 5G sported the entry-level Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset and a 5160mAh battery. Considering the tech available now, we can expect the POCO M8 5G to offer something better.
Price jump?
The upgrades and RAM shortage could result in a notable price increase for the new model. But we’ll have to wait till the launch next week to know if that happens. Until then, stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
